Hello, I am trying to chart all the small booklets I have, using Pattern Maker or PCStitch. Anyone interested in contributing to this blog?

  1. I know this is a Russian book, but some of these letters look like Greek letters. The title, in English letters is kenthma--I think. DMC has a series of Greek pamphlets with the same word on them.
Thank you so much for these marvelous letters!

  2. I'm having difficulty opening these. They're beautiful! I have the PCStitch Pattern Viewer. Do I need the full version to view these, or am I doing something wrong? Thank you!

  3. Cyrillic is similar in appearance to Greek and English, but the pronunciation's sometimes different; that word's actually 'kniga' (book), with the k pronounced, not silent. Thank you for sharing these; it's really neat to see the same designs translated into other alphabets, especially since some of the letters in these charts got phased out during the Soviet Revolution and aren't used any more!

  4. Thanks Ramzi. It was great to be able to open these up in JPG without using programs I don't have. They sure are lovely.

  5. The Russian letters look similar to Greek, because the Cyrillic alphabet is based on the Greek alphabet.

  13. It is normal that somes of de letters look like greek's letters. The Cyrillic alphabeth was made by the Saint Cyril ans Method of Salonic (in the actuel Greece) and they made it of the greek's alphabeth.

  14. Lovely alphabets... are you sure it's Russian, or is it Ukranian? Russian doesn't have an "I" that looks like our latin I. Ukranian does, however.

  17. To Measi: These are pre-revolutionary designs that include the letter 'i' and yat'. I, i were current in Russian until the "spelling reforms" of 1917.

  18. Hi, I'm Russian, read all the comments. I was shocked by the fact that people think that the Russian alphabet is based on the Greek alphabet. For the record I want to say that the Russian alphabet originated earlier than the Greek and Latin, he was transformed from the runes. Archaeological finds confirm that the Russian language there was at least 40,000 years before Christ, and that only material evidence. Learn the history of our planet ladies and gentlemen. sorry for my english.

My daughter is a half Russian Japanese. She is stitching Cheburashka in her homemaking class at school. She added "Cheburashka" in Russian. It looks really neat.
