Hello, I am trying to chart all the small booklets I have, using Pattern Maker or PCStitch. Anyone interested in contributing to this blog?

Russian Patterns from 1877
(NEW PDF book Download)

I want to thank Valérie bleudecroix for providing the Easy Cross files

I would like to thank Martine & her Russian friend from France for providing us with the translation

Just a little spoon, my wife, please !

petrovna left a comment that the better translation would be:

"Eat at least one more little spoon, please" (it's speaking to guest)
"and bow, wife!"

Thank you for your help

Never mind how you sit, you can’t be musicians

(Collected Velikorusskih & Malorossiyskih patterns for embroidery) ---- it's called like "Ornament of the Russian folk embroidery as a historical and ethnographic sources". Sorry for my remark ;)

  7. Yes, it's about what Petrovna said.

Ramzi, I wish to add a link where you can read all fable Demyan's Fish Soup and you will find this phrase about little spoon. Then picture in cross stitch is about overbearing hospitality.))))

  9. The Title actually says
    Russian and Ukrainian designs
Maloruski is an old pejorative term for Ukrainians

  10. The musicians picture looks like it was made for a collection of music by Glinka. But the illustration is from Krylov's fable in rhyme, The Musicians.

A monkey, a donkey, a goat, and a bear, want to play a quartet. They get instruments and music, but when they play, there is no harmony. The donkey says they need to switch places, so they switch around, but still no harmony. They switch again, and again, and nothing works. Finally a crow comes along and tells them that no matter how they sit, they are not suited to be musicians (talentless).

Krylov's target was the Russian administration, where men switched roles from ministry to ministry, but there was no improvement in the quality of government, because the men were not suited to be administrators.

I had to memorize the poem as a child, and I still remember much of it! Now I can cross-stitch the design. Thank you for posting it.
